NORA CHIPAUMIRE

Nora Chipaumire, a self-exiled artist now based in New York, has studied dance, choreography and performance formally and informally in Zimbabwe, the USA, Cuba, and Jamaica. Her contemporary work is inspired by art from her native country, such as Shona sculpture and Chimurenga music - art that results from an often violent convergence of rural, urban, African, non-African, cultural, economic, colonial, and technological ideas. She is a member of the world renowned dance company Urban Bush Women, a winner of numerous prizes and grants, and has taught and performed throughout the US and internationally.
