Robyn Orlin

Born in Johannesburg in 1955, Robyn Orlin has over 20 years of experience and many creations behind her. She studied at the London School of Contemporary Dance and completed a master’s degree in fine arts at the Art Institute of Chicago. She has worked as a choreographer, producer, dancer and teacher in diverse media including television, film, theatre, dance and opera, and today divides her time between South Africa and Germany. Her work, marginalised by the conservative dance community during the apartheid era, is these days funded by the South African government. Orlin is a winner of various bursaries and awards, the most recent being the 2003 Laurence Olivier Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Dance’ for her piece Daddy I’ve seen this piece six times and still don’t know why they are hurting each other.
