The Body Of My Soul

Maflohé wishes to celebrate Roma gypsy women, offering a vibrant homage to her distant roots, the inheritance of which she feels so strongly, and comment on the multiple discriminations towards Roma women as well as their social exclusion. A believer in icons, the young bride is ambivalent, provocative and seductive, restricted in her movements, imprisoned by male hands without a body, rising all around. Through an expressionist type of dramatic art and interactive sound environment, this show evokes dance, the shouts, the laughter and the tears.
This installation questions us about sentimental relationships and the bounds we weave throughout our life; it is a reflection on freedom within relationships and whether these go beyond the sacred, the symbols and the dogma.

A bridal dress, suspended for all to view, is enlivened and changed in its appearance which seems angelic, magic… While the dramatic art takes place using a video projection, the visitor is invited to participate in the ceremony. (Maflohé Passedouet)
