Crazy God

The Crazy God project is a result of the De Rosa's work from a period of volunteering during the 1990s in an old psychiatric hospital, whose name and location she deliberately withholds. Six years after the healthcare structure closed the institution down, the artist returns among the rooms and already decaying corridors to document the void left by the patients. The result is a sensitive, touching study consisting of portraits of the objects abandoned by the patients and their wall writings – sentences that are often astonishingly lucid.

This poignant project, presented at the Photographers’ Gallery in London in 2007, received the first prize at the Lucie International Photography Awards 2008, several honourable mentions and a special award from the World Health Organization. It is also one of the winners of The Magenta Foundation’s Emerging Photographers Competition entitled Flash Forward. Damiani Editore published the book Crazy God in 2007.
