I Put A Spell On You

I Put A Spell On You is a performance partly based on
native rituals and worship as well as on Scandinavian and European folklore.
One of the female creatures in Scandinavian folklore, the Skogsrå (Forest
Woman), is a dangerous seductress who lives in the forest. She appears out of
rain and mist and shape-shifts, turning herself into a chimera, an animal, such
as a she-wolf, at will. This wonderfully echoes and concurrently challenges the
traditional image of the male wolf, either as an evil force or a guiding
spirit. Her victims are traditionally men, but what if she were to encounter an
equal female force, like that of her aquatic counterpart, the Havsrå (Sea
Woman)? Are they One? Are they two different beings? Are they good-natured or
evil? A clash of forces, a meeting of minds, an invocation of the female
adversary? This performance has been commissioned by City of Women 2011. (Predrag Pajdic)
