I’m Walking Behind You and Watching You

The project problematizes the low presence and representation of women
in public spaces. It derives from a simple question: if the Slovenian capital has as many as 360
monuments of local significance, what is the number of annotations mentioning
women?

I’m Walking Behind You and Watching You is organized around 4 different formats: a radio
intervention (The forgotten half), a performative installation (Alive
Sculpture), a performative guided tour (I’m walking behind you and watching
you) and a video (Ljubljana- City of Women)

The project was made possible by the contribution
of many people, among which Alenka Puhar, Iva Tratnik, Zvezdana Novakovič,
Ana Sluga, Iva Tratnik, Maja Šubic, Mina Arko, Mojca
Smerdu, Rene Rusjan, Saba Skaberne, Sanja Ajdišek.

The forgotten half

Conceived as a radio
show, the announcement of the most ambitious project of the city of Ljubljana
with the opening of a new monument devoted to women in the city center, was
presented in detail. The radio-show was conceived by the authors together with
Saška Rakef.

13.10., 5 pm

Alive Sculpture

On one of the main
square of the city, 129 women mark the space with their bodies.  They create a form in the shape of x (here we
are!). The action is inaugurated as an ephemeral monument, devoted to all the
famous unknowns, the forgotten half, the women that importantly contributed to
Slovene society, but still remained mostly unnoticed.

The event lasts 45
minutes. It is opened by speeches and accompanied by the women choir Barje.

I’m Walking Behind You and Watching You

The guided tour is a female map of the city in which memory
holders form the missing and ignored stories of women who worked their way
through this city, created it, swore by it and breathed it, as well as those
who migrated to it every day. If the
Slovenian capital has as many as 360 monuments of local significance, what is
the number of annotations mentioning women?

The tour last three hours and concludes in
Slaščičarna on Stari Trg, where we will, while drinking a special coffee,
discuss about how to set up better practices around women representation in
public spaces. Due to a limited number of spectators (30), please make a prior
reservation at pr@cityofwomen.org. Price: € 5.
