KARAVANA ILUZIJ

Being autonomously in charge of a larger musical cast brings with it the ambivalence of overlapping pain and joy. The range of work performed by Jelena Milojević with Karavana iluzij is wide indeed – in addition to writing applications, compositions, and arrangements, Jelena also produces music, takes care of its organization, and prepares final reports. A strange bond exists between the inevitable bureaucratic procedures, on the one hand, and the final creation, on the other, which arises as a consequence only and does not come to life fully until performed on stage. The bond in question can be heard as part of a given production and recognized as the very part which economically “paid off” the most (in the widest sense of the term). The album surely speaks of this loud and clear, turning all future performances into potential risks. However, having skilfully performed all other tasks, Jelena can stand next to Karavana in a relaxed and confident manner, giving a taste of what could be considered a versatile result – material which is at times flexible, fresh, danceable, and funky; “evergreen corny” here and ethnically intertwined there, manifesting her devotion to acoustic as well as electric performances through a skilfully fluid combination of both. It is somewhere in between one and the other that a modern authorial musical opus and clubish pleasure emerge. Miha Zadnikar
